As we find ourselves on the cusp of 2023 coming to a close, we recognize the importance of keeping our valued customers well-informed and consistently updated about the ever-evolving landscape of the mailing industry. In current news, today’s topic touches on the 2024 proposed price changes for mailing services. The United States Postal Service typically proposes price changes for the beginning and midpoint of every year.

As of October 6th, 2023, the United States Postal Service has filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) in regards to the price changes of mailing services planned to take effect January 21st, 2024.
What does this mean for you? Postalocity.com works in tandem with USPS prices, and will promptly update its services to reflect any approved price changes. Nevertheless, Postalocity.com works to ensure our customers are saving the absolute MOST in time and money. We will continue to provide efficient and quality mailing services.

As noted in previous pricing proposal updates, Postalocity jobs approved after the January 21st, 2024 mail date will reflect the new USPS price changes.

Can you believe it? We’re on the verge of waving goodbye to June and eagerly awaiting the arrival of a brand-new month. But before we jump headfirst into July, let’s take a moment to reflect on these upcoming events that await us.

Postage Rate Increase – July 9th, 2023

Just a friendly reminder that effective July 9th, 2023 the postage rate increase will take effect. Postal services may periodically review and adjust their pricing structure to account for factors such as inflation, operational costs, and service enhancements. The increase in postage rates aims to ensure that the postal service can continue to provide reliable and efficient mail delivery while maintaining financial sustainability.

We have two weeks until these changes are reflected throughout Postalocity. Mail jobs submitted after July 8th, 2023 will reflect the new price changes.

National Stamp Day – July 1st, 2023

From majestic eagles to adorable kittens, stamps are mini works of art that brighten up our mail. National Stamp Day serves to recognize not only the beauty in each stamp, but the history behind them. Stamps hold significant historical value as artifacts of communication, culture, and events throughout history. Before the existence of stamps, recipients were responsible for paying the postage upon receiving a letter or package. The introduction of stamps revolutionized the postal system by shifting the burden of payment to the sender.

This day in particullar also encourages others to send snail mail! Even if you don’t have a stamp, you can join in on the fun by mailing letters, postcards, and other mail pieces through Postalocity!

National Postage Worker Day – July 1st, 2023

Today, we raise our hats and honor the dedicated individuals who make up the backbone of our postal system—postage workers! These heroes tirelessly handle an astonishing amount of mail each day. In fact, did you know that postal workers deliver around 146 billion pieces of mail annually? That’s a hefty number that showcases their unwavering commitment to ensuring our letters, packages, and important documents reach their intended recipients. Rain, snow, or scorching heat, they brave the elements to provide reliable and efficient service. Their diligent efforts keep our communities connected, businesses thriving, and personal connections strong.

Here at Postalocity, our own employees work hard to ensure your mail is handled with care, sorted, address checked, sealed, and given the appropriate postage so that it’s ready to be handed off to our friends at USPS. We are very proud of the work they do! You can observe this holiday by taking some time to thank a postal worker.

Last month we briefly mentioned the USPS’ proposed price changes which would raise postage rates for the second time this year. Today we’re bringing you an update on that proposal. Postalocity jobs approved after the July 8th, 2023 mail date will reflect the new USPS Price changes.

Approved Increase

The PRC (Postal Regulatory Commission) has approved the proposed price changes brought forth by the United States Postal Service. These changes will be taking effect July 9th, 2023 and 2024 promotions changes will be implemented January 1st. The PRC has noted and responded to several comments regarding the decision and concerns of USPS price increases. These acknowledgements include USPS needing to take into consideration fixed mailing budgets and twice-per-year price changes in regards to volume loss, commenter concerns regarding the amount of USPS price increases, and USPS’ task to investigate and correct filing errors found in current and future rate adjustment proceedings.

New postage Rates

Effective July 9th, 2023, listed as follows:

First-Class Mail (overall) will see a 5.366% change with a total unused price authority of 0.011%.

Happy Saturday! It’s a great morning to relax, head out for the day, or knock out some spring cleaning before the summer heat swoops in. Today’s blog is about an important change coming up here within the next year. On June 30th, 2024, USPS will be having their largest, forced postage meter migration across the United States. Approximately 70% of IBI devices will be decertified and will need to be IMI compliant by the June 30th cutoff date. These changes serve to help USPS issue refunds automatically through the devices, increase security, and better automate their operations. Devices will also need to be constantly connected to the internet where as previously this was only needed during updates.

IBI – Information Based Indicia • IMI – Intelligent Mail Indicia

Meter Replacement Chart

Below is a chart of postage meter devices and their replace-by dates. For replacement cost referencing, Pitney Bowes’ IMI compliant SendPro® Mailstation for small businesses (100 mail pieces or less) averages $26.99 per month / $323.88 per year to rent. This does not include the postage.

We’re Here To Help!

How does this affect you? If you’re a business who uses postage meter devices to handle your mail, then you know just how costly renting or purchasing a new device can be. As an added headache, there’s the potential supply chain issue to keep in mind due to the large percentage of replacements needed.

Postalocity seeks to remedy this issue for you with no machines, no hidden fees, and less work on your end! We keep our equipment up-to-date and always to USPS standards. We offer bulk pricing to save you money and we pack, stuff, and check addressing for you before sending your mail off to our friends at USPS. With Postalocity, your tasks end at the keyboard, not with another postage meter rental.

We’re already a third of the year in and the weather has been nothing but pleasant. Increased rain showers, flowering trees, and increased productivity – and oh boy, the mailings are ramping up too! We are busy bee’s up here in Postalocity, but sometimes bees need to take a moment to enjoy their efforts! As we approach May, we’d like to share with you USPS’ 2023 Postal Holidays, which we also observe. Don’t let that stop you from sending your mail online! You can still send in your mail to Postalocity.com and we’ll take care of it on the following open business day!

Postage Rate Increases

As of April 10th, 2023 the USPS has filed a notice for mailing service price changes. These changes will be taking effect July 9th, 2023. Though only proposed, we’d like to give you a heads-up that postage rates will be increasing once again, as they do every year. Nevertheless, you can send mail online with Postalocity and still save more money than if you went the traditional route. Alongside our useful direct mail tools, completely online process, and our ability to get necessary mail items in bulk, your pockets – and your time – won’t take a hit!

Make heads turn – towards your business!

Another perk of our new feature is how attractive it will make your mail look (oh my!).

A successful business and brand are built on many things, the most important of them is through consumer loyalty, trust, and recognition. Modern and updated logos, slogans, and business practices lend to these achievements, but a lot of businesses tend to neglect their mail.

About 425.3 million pieces of mail are sent out every day (2) and just about everyone gets it in one way or another, be it bills, celebration cards, or bulk mail, the latter of which consumers consider to be junk. Of that “junk mail”, a whopping 44% of it is thrown away unopened (1).

Birthday cards are never tossed out though and it’s not just because of those colorful envelopes.

Just like with credit repair companies, most mail is addressed with the same sans-serif fonts. Consumers have come to associate these fonts with that of junk, unless they are specifically expecting a certain type of mail. Impressions rule the world and your envelope is the very first thing anyone sees so choosing a handwritten font can make your mail feel more personable to the consumers you want it to reach.

Alright, count me in – how do I get started?

It’s simple, just follow the same digital mailing process that you usually do and if you’re new to Postalocity, you can view a quick tutorial here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbZE9-tZFvo

To add a handwritten font, find the box labeled “Postalocity #10 Envelope Design” and click on the current font to the right of “Address Font”. Select from many of our wonderful scripts and prints and you’re on your way!

Anything else I should know about?

We’re at the end of the road. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our mailing offers and how we can help you make the most AND save the most, just check out the links below! For additional help and information, check out some more of our expert blog tips too!

Monday, December 25: Christmas Day

We will post notices on the homepage of your account when a holiday is coming up to remind you to plan accordingly if we are to be closed as well.

Wait…. it’s July ALREADY?! Time flies when you’re having fun and doing what you love. We at Postalocity are blessed in that way and it’s because of our amazing customers like you! Let’s dig in to our latest quarterly newsletter and talk about what’s new in Postalocity for Q3!

Postage Increase

I’m a bad-news-first-then-the-good-news kind of gal, so I’m getting the bummer topic out of the way now. You may remember a blog from a couple of months ago on this. If you didn’t read it, you can check it out here. If you’re looking for a much deeper dive, you can read about it on the USPS’s website too.

As a refresher:

First Class letters will be increasing between $0.02 and $0.03 per piece, depending on the quality of the address.

Flats will be increasing anywhere from $0.04 to $0.48 per piece depending on their weight.

Certified Mail without a digital signature required will increase $0.25 per piece and Certified Mail with a digital signature required will increase $0.40 per piece.

This will all go into effect on July 10th, 2022. Any Postalocity mailings with a mail date after July 10, 2022 will reflect these prices.

4×6 Postcards and 6×9 Postcards

Postalocity has always had a postcard offering available to our users. To be completely honest, it wasn’t very user friendly. So we revamped the whole process and gave it a nice little makeover. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you absolutely should! You can test drive it by clicking “Use Wizards” and start building your postcard job. It will walk you through all of the visual settings first, starting with asking if you want a 4×6 postcard or a 6×9 postcard. You can choose from several different paper qualities. We even offer a beautiful high gloss option which makes your message really pop.

If you have a mailing list, you’ll upload the CSV to the Postalocity job. Need a list? We can help with that! Our list experts will help guide you through your options so you get the most targeted list of recipients possible.

Revenue Neutral Rate Notice

This one is a little special to Kansas, but important nonetheless. Buckle up. This gets obnoxiously complicated in a hurry.

All individual taxing authorities (think school districts, the City of, the County, rural water district board, etc.) have to make a decision to raise or not raise the tax over revenue neutral rate by July 20, 2022.

At that point, the County Clerk would need to communicate this to the tax payers IF their property is affected by this. For example, USD 259 could vote to raise it, but no other school districts voted to raise it. That means only the property owners within USD 259 would get the letter.

No earlier than August 20th and no later than September 20th, all taxing authorities will be required to hold a public hearing to let the taxpayers speak their minds. No less than 10 days prior to this meeting, the County Clerk is required to mail the tax levy communication to the property owners.

We’ve created a brand new wizard and how-to guides for the County Clerks that are using Postalocity for this mailer. It’s been a pretty intense process for the clerks as well as the Postalocity team. There hasn’t been much clear communication from the state about expectations. We’ve worked together with the state, the Clerks, and the software companies the Clerks use to find our way through it. We’re excited to be a supporting part of it!

If you have questions about any of this, as always, please reach out!
